Specify IP list to distinguish between Sub-Themes
LEGO Ideas currently doesn't allow submissions based on IP that is currently licensed to prevent ideas from overlapping with official themed sets. This is understandable, but the official list of restricted IP feels rather broad: For example, as popular as the LEGO: Star Wars line is, the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic has not had a set made about it in the 17 years since its release. It seems extremely unlikely that a Knights of the Old Republic set will overlap in any way with an official Lego Star Wars set, especially since the game has little in common with the rest of the Star Wars canon aside from space travel and the existence of Jedi.
Because of this, I think it would make more sense if large franchises like Star Wars or Batman were split up into sub-categories, for example:
Star Wars: The Clone Wars = Restricted, Current 3rd-party overlap
Star Wars: KOTOR = Approved
Batman: The Animated Series = Restricted, Current 3rd-party overlap
Batman: Beyond = Approved
Unfortunately, we will not be allowing submissions based on any active intellectual properties that we currently produce sets on regardless of whether or not its a sub-theme.
