There is already apparent disregard of the piece count limit. 8/18 of the Round 2 & 3 projects in the BrickLink Designer Program have over the 3k limit. This is unfair to projects that make compromises to stay within the parts limit. Either raise the limit or stop rewarding projects that defy it.

I would say that this should apply to product ideas too. LEGO IDEAS is seemingly the only LEGO community that's dominated by creations not created with real bricks. There needs to be an incentive for people to build models that have economical use of parts, respect gravity, and have actually demonstrable functionality.
This should be mandatory for digital builds because (a) it's easy to calculate and (b) digital builds have no economic incentive keeping their part count down.
